Crescent Roll Cooking

By Angie Sutton

Warmer weather means the kiddos are outside each evening and likely not going to come in easily for dinner. I've been experimenting with crescent rolls and what ingredients are successful to wrap inside and bake. These miniature meals are easy for little hands to manage and are portable enough to have a backyard picnic.

Apple Pie Poppers

These mini pie poppers make an easy dessert option or a later in the evening snack.

Ingredients:

1/4 c. packed light brown sugar
1 tsp. apple pie spice
3 Tbsp. unsalted butter
1/4 c. chopped pecans
1 apple, preferably Granny Smith
1 (8-oz.) can crescent rolls

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Peel, core and slice apple into 1/2-inch-thick pieces.

3. In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar and apple pie spice; set aside. Melt butter and add apple slices, stirring to coat all pieces; set aside.

4. Arrange crescent roll triangles on baking sheet. Sprinkle brown sugar mixture on each piece. Evenly distribute chopped pecans on each piece.

5. Place each apple slice on the wide end of each triangle. Roll to wrap crescent dough around each slice.

6. Brush each roll with remaining butter and sprinkle with additional apple pie spice.

7. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 2 minutes before removing from pan.

French Dip Crescents

These mini French Dip Crescents will delight even the tiniest hands around your table. Serve with aAu jJus and extra horseradish sauce.

Ingredients:

2 (8-count) pkgs. crescent rolls
1 lb. deli-sliced roast beef
4 oz. provolone cheese, cut into 16 pieces
4 Tbsp. horseradish sauce
Au Jus for dipping

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Unroll crescent dough into 16 triangles and arrange on baking sheet(s).

3. Spread a small amount of horseradish sauce on the wide end of each triangle. Place a slice of roast beef and piece of cheese on each triangle.

4. Roll to wrap crescent dough with ingredients from widest to narrow end.

5. Bake 11 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 2 minutes before removing from pan.

So Simple Pizza Snacks

Short-cut this snack by using mini-pepperoni slices, especially when you are making more than just eight servings. Serve with marinara sauce to dip in.

Ingredients:

1 (8-count) pkg. crescent rolls
16 slices pepperoni, cut into quarters
2 pieces mozzarella string cheese, cut into quarters
3/4 tsp. Italian seasoning, divided
1/4 tsp. garlic salt

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Unroll crescent dough into eight triangles and arrange on baking sheet.

3. Place eight pepperoni pieces on each triangle. Place a piece of cheese on the wide piece of each triangle and sprinkle with 1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning.

4. Roll to wrap crescent dough around ingredients and pinch seams to seal. Arrange 2-inches apart. Sprinkle tops with garlic salt and remaining Italian seasoning.

5. Bake 11 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 2 minutes before removing from pan.
